Going to Cedar City With faith

So a while back I went to Cedar City to visit my Grandma Karla, who is basically known as the best granny EVER!  When  we went down there it was when there was a bunch of fires in Utah and was super dry.  It hadn't rained for a long time ( maybe just a couple of weeks) and there was actually a fire going on really close to where we were.  There is this place called stout canyon where I have a cabin and so it was also pretty close to it also.  I had prayed a couple of times about the fire, but I'm entirely sure that I had faith.  So when we got to cedar city I prayed and prayed and prayed.  The next couple of days I woke up hoping something would happen, on the third day I woke up thinking it was the middle of the night because it was still kind of dark outside. Then I went upstairs and found everyone up there just like normal days.  I went over to the window and I saw it raining like  CRAZY!!!!!
I think I am pretty sure that my prayers were answered, and I know that if we pray to heavenly father for any particular purpose he answer them.
                                                                          ~Bri, yeah yah!

Hospital Visit

One of our sweet YW was staying in the hospital after an intensive surgery. She has been so courageous as she has taken on the this trial. I had the chance to go visit her in the hospital a few times and some of our very caring girls joined also. I'm always amazed by the thoughtfulness and admire each one of them for their love and support towards others. As we try and live the gospel if we don't remember anything else the one thing we should continually strive for is to be more like Christ. His example shows us the path to true happiness. When we shape our lives around him it seems that everything else just falls into place. Living a Christ like life in no ways excludes you from trials and personal heartache but when our heart is turned to him, are trials will be bearable and our heartaches can be overcome.

Service Project

So I just barely got logged on to the blog, and I decided to put on that activity that Madeline and I did together a while ago. My grandparent's are on a mission in Nepal. One of their projects is in hospitals with newborns. Since so many of them go home with only the sun to warm them, we decided for one of our Personal Progress goals to make hats to distribute those babies. The first thing we did was a bake sale. We sold cupcakes, congo bars, and cookies. We were aiming for around $50 but ended up with over $200! It was a lot of hard work, but I think it payed off.

All the baked goods.
Somehow, our gnomes escaped into this
maze of desserts!

Delivery

Next, we bought the supplies and held the activity. We worked hard that night and made a ton of hats. Since we had bought a ton of supplies, we are currently working on finishing them. We will later give them to Nepal. Even though we made a lot of hats, we still managed to have a lot of money left over. We gave most of the extra money to Heifer Organization, a company that gives animals to people in rural countries so they can raise money on their own. We donated a llama, a beehive, and chickens and are very excited that we could help.

Women in the Scriptures

How many women do you think are in the scriptures? The answer may surprise you. There are 556 women mentioned in the scriptures, and 428 parables or prophecies that specifically address or mention women!

I hope you Mia Maids and Laurels are aware that our "Women of the Scripture Feast" is coming up on April 2, and I hope you'll start preparing for it now.  Please pick a woman from the scriptures to study and get to know, and then at our feast you will share with us what you've learned about her. Don't just read her story to us--I want you to think about what her life was like, and what you can learn from her. You have a couple of weeks to prepare, so you shouldn't have to scramble at the last minute to come up with something.

If you are having a hard time deciding who you want to study, here are a couple of blogs dedicated to the study of the women in the scriptures:

and

Take a look around them because they have a great list of some of the women you could choose from.

Good Luck! I can't tell you how excited I am for this feast. The food will be delicious, but I am even more excited for you girls to get to know these amazing women. They have so much they can teach you, and I know those lessons will help you throughout your life--you just have to discover them!

What is Grace?

What is Grace?

Watch this amazing video that helps us understand the grace of God in our lives.

Each girl in the Beehive Class was given an envelope last week at church with an assignment.  They were each asked to read the talk or watch the video link above, His Grace is Sufficient by Brad Wilcox.  Next Sunday, March 17th they will help teach the YW beehive lesson by sharing their assignment sand comments.  Please make sure you come prepared to help our class learn! Here is a summary of the assignments.  Please call Sister Kassing if you have any further questions.

Lauren & Madeline:
Read John 15:1-10
Learn about how the Savior uses the branches to teach about grace.  What insights do you gain about grace from these versus?  Summarize to the class what you have learned about grace?

Taryn & Lydia
Make a list of things you learn as you read about grace in the Bible Dictionary and in True to the Faith.  Come prepared to class ready to share something from you list and explain why it is meaningful to you.  Find a picture (maybe in a Gospel Art Kit or Church Magazine) that shows people who received grace or help from God.  Come prepared to share you picture and explain why you have chosen it.

Lisa:
Come to class ready to share either your favorite picture or story about Jesus Christ.

Anik:
After reading/watching the talk, His Grace is Sufficient, study the part where he talks about a young man who just got out of prison.  Explain to the class what happened when he went to EFY.  Come prepared to teach and explain this section of the talk, in your own words, summarize how the talk relates to the story of the boy and the sinner in heaven.  Share your feelings on how this relates to grace and what it has taught you.

Ali & Tyllar & Brianna:
Ready and study the talk "In the Strength of the Lord" by David A Bednar, Ensign Nov 2004, 76-78.
How did grace help Elder Bednar?  How can grace help you?  Look for answers to these questions in his talk.  Come to class ready to share your feelings on these questions and explain the story of Elder Bednar?

Annie:
After reading/watching the talk, His Grace is Sufficient, he talks about a child taking piano lessons. Come to class prepared to teach about how the piano lesson teaches us about grace.  When he refers to playing the piano at Carnegie Hall vs quitting.  Help the class understand how this concept relates to grace.

Iron Chef Activity

We had a fun activity tonight where we tried to copy the TV show Iron Chef or Chopped.  The girls were divided into groups and given a bag of different food items.  They had one hour to come up with a dish to present to be judged.  They were given scores for presentation, creativity and taste!  I was so amazed what good cooks these ladies are.  Here are a few pictures of the final dishes.

These were the ladies presenting the winning dish!

Thanks to all that participated, you can cook dinner for me anytime!!!
